41 Candidates Vie For Kadoma Urban Local Authority 17 Wards Seats

By Lloyd Mwale in Kadoma

At least 41 candidates have been duly nominated to represent their respective political parties in Kadoma Urban Local Authority’s 17 wards after they filed their nomination papers when the Nomination Court sat in Kadoma to receive candidates’ papers with four being rejected for various reasons.
The two traditional foes, the ruling Zanu PF and main opposition Citizens Coalition For Change (CCC) candidates filed to contest in all the 17 wards with the Douglas Mwonzora’s led Movement for Democratic Change-T (MDC-T) filing to contest in three wards only.  Little known United Zimbabwe Alliance (UZA) led by businesswoman Elisabeth Valerio will contest in two wards. Two candidates are standing in as independents.
Zanu PF Ward 8 sitting councillor Emmanuel Mutemi will battle it out with recalled former Ward 3 councillor Michael Mvula who now eye Ward 8 local authority seat.  Another recalled former MDC-T now CCC candidate Nigel Rosario, is making a comeback to continue in Ward 15 where he will face Abraham Phiri of Zanu PF.
Mvula and Rosario were recalled from Kadoma Local Authority seats after Mwonzora Mdc-T struck Kadoma and are now under the Citizen Coalition For Change ticket.
Zanu PF sitting councillors in Ward 14 and 16 were also nominated to contest in Kadoma Urban Local Authority seats with the bulk of contestants trying their luck for the first time save for Independent candidate Israel Gagada still hoping to wrestle the seat from the two foes.
The Nomination Court sitting in Kadoma rejected four aspiring candidates, with CCC candidate for Ward 7 Ophius Mukucha and Ward 3’s Martin Chikodza’s papers being rejected for providing wrong addresses in their respective wards, while in Ward 9 Ndabezihle Khumala’s papers were rejected for not being in voters roll and Sekai Mafukidze of Ward 11 is not registered as voter.
The Nomination Court also recieved papers for Women’s Qouta in the local authority, Judith Ndengwa, Beatrice Nyagowa, Sarudzai Murade, Doreen Mukucha and Edith Mukurunyorova – all on the CCC ticket – and Chipo Dzvega, Pricilla Muchareva Phiri, Stancea Chivaura, Mugore Gwari and Pheobeline Magama to represent Zanu PF.
