Jameson High School Learners hospitalised

At least 53 Jameson High School leaners and 4 teachers have been hospitalised at Kadoma General Hospital after allegedly inhaling poisonous gases this morning.

According to Dr Celestino Dhege, the Provincial Medical Director the incident occurred in the morning during the school assembly.

“The incident happened at around 7 am during the morning assembly, the learners started to smell and inhale gas which led to some of the them to lose consciousness”

“Our team was alerted and they came to the school to manage the learners. We have not been able to identify the source of the gas leakage but we are on the ground to investigate the cause of the leakage”, he said.

The Kadoma municipality, Environmental Management Agency (EMA), Zimbabwe National Army are in the process of investigating the matter.

“So far we have excluded methane gas as the cause , but still want to check gas such as sulphur dioxide,” said Dr Dhege.

The leaners are being monitored at the Kadoma hospital as investigations are still in progress
