Mutare Poly awards Diploma certificate to inmates

Mutare Polytechnic vice principal Dr Stefani Chabwera hands over diploma to Terrence Masiiwa while Resident Minister for Manicaland province looks on during the Mutare Farm Prison inmates in Mutare today.
An inmate of Mutare Prison, Terrence Masiiwa was one of 21 inmates from Mutare Farm Prison who graduated with certificates from the Mutare Polytechnic.
Masiiwa is serving a 10-year sentence for theft of communication cables and is due out in 2028.
“I was arrested in 2021 in Nyanga for contravening the PTC Act by stealing cables, and sentenced to 10 years,” Masiiwa said.
“I did not not know that one can get a certificate whilst in prison and actually improve oneself to be a productive citizen upon release.
“ln 2023 l received my first certificate in pig farming with Fulcrum Institute and I then opted to further my studies by undertaking a Business Management and Entrepreneurship programme with Mutare Polytechnic. l am graduating today and am so full of pride for my achievement,” he said.
Masiiwa said he opted for the Business Management and Entrepreneurship programme because he knew that it would him help to manage his business, projects and also the society he hails from after his release.
The occasion was graced by Hon. Advocate Mishek Mugadza, Mutare Polytechnic members of staff and Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services officials.
