Age of sexual consent raised from 16 to 18 in conformity with the Constitution

THE Criminal Law Amendment Bill that raises the age of sexual consent from 16 to 18 in conformity with the Constitution, and punishes sexual offenders against children more severely, including those that knowingly infect children with sexually transmitted infections, has passed Parliament with amendments.

The Bill is now headed to President Mnangagwa for his signature when it will amend the criminal code.

This comes as the Administration of Estates Amendment Bill that seeks to protect the property of widows, widowers, orphans during disputes on estates, passed through the National Assembly and is now set to be tabled before the Senate.
