Zanu PF leaders panic as Mzembi exposes hidden conference agenda

Former ZANU-PF leader Walter Mzembi says no one will talk about replacing President Mnangagwa at the party’s big meeting. Mzembi, who now lives in another country, made these comments right after ZANU-PF’s 379th Politburo meeting, which kicked off their 21st Annual Conference on October 22.

Many people think Mnangagwa wants to stay president after 2028, when he should step down. But not everyone in ZANU-PF likes this idea. Some say Vice President Chiwenga and other party members don’t want Mnangagwa to change the rules so he can stay longer.

On X (formerly Twitter), Mzembi explained why he thinks succession won’t come up: “Succession is not on the agenda as anticipated by speculators who do not know how ZANU-PF operates. It will not be up for debate but will be on the resolutions. The incumbent will succeed himself to 2030 as administrative Resolution Numero Uno.”

According to Mzembi, the party will just say Mnangagwa stays leader, and everyone will celebrate with singing and dancing. That’s how ZANU-PF usually shows everyone agrees on big decisions.

He also thinks they’ll change the Constitution to let Mnangagwa and other officials keep their jobs longer. About Parliament agreeing to these changes, Mzembi wrote: “A conflicted Parliament is waiting to endorse this, as it benefits from a minimum two-year extension. After all, in a 2028 gamble, many – probably the majority – will not come back!”

The timing matters because ZANU-PF’s yearly conference is happening now. Even though Mzembi says they won’t talk about who takes over next, everyone’s watching to see what happens. Some party members want new leaders, while others want everything to stay the same.

What ZANU-PF decides could change Zimbabwe’s future in big ways. The party needs to keep its members happy while also doing what’s right for the country. With so many different opinions about who should lead next, the conference might show which way the party will go.

These decisions about leadership come at an important time for Zimbabwe. How ZANU-PF handles this could affect not just the party, but the whole country’s future.
