ZRP Detains Senior Chegutu Council Managers Over Stands Issues

Chegutu Police have detained senior employees from Chegutu Municipality for questioning following the arrest of Tapiwa Fundeka and Lawrence Mukanyau. Both individuals are facing charges of forgery and theft by conversion.
Fundeka and Mukanyau were initially remanded in custody after the Chegutu Magistrate’s Court learned that in 2023, they collaborated with Fundeka’s wife to forge signatures and sales agreements for six council-owned properties.
These properties were fraudulently transferred to Fundeka’s wife, Ethel Dzeka, who is currently at large.
Ethel is said to be related to Chegutu Deputy Mayor Edward Dzeka
Last week, Mukanyau was granted bail, while Fundeka was returned to prison after another case emerged involving his tampering with computer systems.
Fundeka allegedly sold an industrial stand and pocketed the proceeds, as well as a vehicle from the buyer.
Further investigations by the police revealed that Fundeka was not acting alone in the commission of these offences; he was part of a larger syndicate involving senior council management. This prompted the apprehension of his superiors for a thorough investigation.
