Harare man loses US$2400 lobola money and hired car at a Beitbridge lodge
Douglas Chinoona, a young man from Dulibadzimu in Beitbridge, is grappling with a heartbreaking loss.
He had set aside US$2,400 for a special event.
This money was meant for lobola, a traditional ceremony in Zimbabwe where a groom’s family formally asks for the bride’s hand in marriage with gifts and payments.
In addition, Douglas had hired a car to make the journey to Murehwa, where the ceremony was scheduled to take place.
He chose to stay at a lodge in Harare’s Mabelreign area for the night, hoping to rest before the big day.
However, his plans were shattered when he awoke to find both the car and his lobola money gone.
According to H-Metro, Douglas was alerted by a lodge staff member about two men claiming to have authority from the car rental company to take the vehicle.
The car in question was a white Toyota GD6 (registration number AGE 4106), which had been hired from Good To Go Car Rental, owned by Lawrence Mangenje.
The betrayal left Douglas in utter despair.
“I was sleeping, they took everything!” he exclaimed, revealing his shock and disbelief.
“I thought they were friends,” he added, indicating the level of trust he had placed in the situation.
“I was left with nothing,” Douglas said, his voice heavy with the weight of his loss.
The theft not only robbed him of his financial resources but also of his dreams for his future marriage.
“I lost everything in one night,” he lamented, describing the devastating impact of the incident.
“I was tricked,” Douglas shared, exposing the deceit he fell victim to.
“They pretended to be from the rental,” he explained, shedding light on the sophisticated ruse used to deceive him.
“My future plans shattered,” Douglas reflected, summing up the profound effect on his life.
“I was sleeping, they took my car,” he repeated, still grappling with the reality of what had occurred.
