Chegutu Magistrates Court has remanded notorious Team Chapter member Whatmore Maphosa in prison, while Mike Chimombe and Lloyd Goliath have been granted $50 bail for illegally collecting vehicle parking fees from motorists in Chegutu.
Dexter Nduna, the Zanu PF Chairman for Resources and Mobilisation Committee, who paid a $200 bail at Chinhoyi High Court for the same offence, also appeared for routine remand.
Team Chapter misrepresented themselves to motorists, claiming they were working on behalf of the Chegutu Municipality and were entitled to collect parking fees.
Nduna, along with Chimombe and Goliath, will return to Chegutu Court on December 3, 2024.
Team Chapter was initiated by controversial former Chegutu West MP Dexter Nduna
Detective Inspector Machodo, the investigating officer, told the court during the bail hearing that some members of Team Chapter are still at large.
Magistrate Melody Nheweyembwa remanded Maphosa in custody until November 15, 2024, at Kadoma Court for a bail hearing, as he is facing a charge of attempted murder.
Prosecutor Tafadzwa Vhore informed the court that on May 3, 2024, Maphosa allegedly assaulted a complainant with his fists, headbutted him, and struck him with an object on the head, resulting in severe injuries.
Team Chapter members were represented by Gwatidzo and Saizi from Saizi Law Chambers.
Maphosa is also known as a leader of the machete gang called Team Barca, which has terrorized small-scale miners and residents around Chegutu.
