Missing Man Found 11 Days Later in Mortuary After Tragic Road Accident in Harare

A heartbreaking discovery has been made in the search for 27-year-old Tinashe Sibanda, who had been missing since March 14. His body was found at the Parirenyatwa Hospital mortuary after a frantic search by his family and friends.

Tinashe, who operated a pirate taxi (mushikashika) between the city center and the University of Zimbabwe, was last seen at Rezende Parkade, where he usually picked up passengers. Concern grew when his phone became unreachable, prompting his relatives and colleagues to search for him.

After exhausting all leads, the family was advised to check the hospital mortuary, where they received the devastating news.

Preliminary reports suggest Tinashe was involved in a fatal road accident along Second Street Extension.

According to a close relative, he was hit by a car while crossing into Norfolk Road. The driver immediately stopped and tried to call the police, but before help arrived, three other vehicles also struck him, dragging his body.

“He was hit by a car while crossing Second Street Extension and entering into Norfolk Road. The driver then stopped trying to call the police before three other cars came and hit, dragging him. He died on the spot, and he couldn’t be identified due to the damage to his face. His brother eventually visited Parirenyatwa and identified him by his phone and clothes; otherwise, his face is crushed.”

It has also emerged that the driver who first hit Tinashe has been making daily visits to Parirenyatwa Hospital and checking with the police, hoping to connect with the deceased’s family.
