Kuwadzana man kills friend in argument over beer

A 43-year-old Kuwadzana man, Terrence Rupiya, was arrested and appeared before Harare magistrate Rufaro Panavanhu after killing his friend over beer.

The court ordered Rupiya to remain in custody until April 25, directing him to seek bail through the High Court due to the gravity of the offence.

According to prosecution records, the incident occurred on April 17 when Rupiya encountered his friend Moran Kumire and another acquaintance, Mazvari Arnold, at a local drinking establishment in Kuwadzana 7. After exhausting their funds, Rupiya allegedly offered to retrieve more money from his residence, with Mazvari accompanying him.

Court documents reveal that Kumire later followed the pair to Rupiya’s home. Tensions escalated when Kumire allegedly accused Rupiya of isolating Mazvari, who had been purchasing drinks for the group. The verbal exchange turned physical when Rupiya reportedly demanded Kumire leave his property.

Prosecutors allege that Rupiya forcibly ejected Kumire from his room before allegedly stabbing him once in the chest and once in the right hand. Mazvari reportedly intervened, disarming Rupiya during the struggle. Neighbours assisted Mazvari in attending to the injured Kumire while awaiting medical help.

Emergency services arrived too late to save Kumire, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Following a report filed at Kuwadzana Police Station, authorities apprehended Rupiya in connection with the homicide.
