Traditional remedies gain ground on social media

THE use of traditional remedies to control or cure ailments has become one of the fast-growing trends on social media platforms across the world, providing an alternative for those seeking help.

A new wave of online herbalists from around the world who have mastered the art of brewing concoctions to cure different ailments and diseases has emerged and is making waves on social media.

From fertility concerns, body odour, gastrointestinal diseases, dermatological disorders and hormonal problems, the online doctor or herbalist has a solution and all you need to do is to gather a few traditional herbs.

Among the most popular is the glow shots that mix ginger, lemon, and turmeric among other ingredients to address dermatological concerns and the okra, cinnamon and guava leaves concoction for fertility.

“I have tried the cloves for body odour and it works wonders. I saw a video on TikTok that taught me to take cloves for bad odour,” one user shared.

“For a long time, I had acid reflux problems. I could not down more than two quarts of alcohol. So I saw a video that recommended the use of ginger. I did a ginger thing for a while and tell you what, I do not have acid problems now,” another said.

Despite the lack of clinical evidence for some of these concoctions and herbs, some of the online users have seemingly seen results.

While this has become a popular trend for the millennials now, some of these health practices and beliefs are believed to have been passed down through generations.

Whether these online remedies work or not remains to be seen, but traditional methods are proving popular among social media users. ZBC
