Well wishers commended for supporting Zororai Old Peoples’ Home

Zororai Old People’s Home administrator in Mutare, Mrs Tariro Chitate has expressed appreciation for efforts by well wishers in helping the unpriviledged to survive.
Speaking during the plantation of fruit trees and donation of food at Zororai Old People’s Home as a part of an empowerment initiative led by the Perfect Tree Association, Mrs Chitate narrated the importance of these well wishers at the old people’ s home
“Well wishers play a vital role for us workers and old people to survive. During the dark cloud here we rely on them for everything especially food and medication,” said Mrs Chitate.
She added that the home was funded fully by Roman Catholic Francisian sisters before but now they are now relying on churches, well wishers and individuals for them to survive.
“Besides efforts from well wishers like Perfect Tree Association ,we used to get fundings from Roman Catholic sisters and l believe they are having difficulties with fundings . We now also rely on Churches and individuals,”
Zororai Old People’s Home has 10 elderly people, four women and 6 men. Some of these old people were facing abuse, neglection and rejection from their families.
Workers and their families are also benefiting from well-wishers since all of them are voluntary working for the community
Speaking during the same occasion Shawn Kasambira the Director of Perfect Tree Association said elderly empowerment should be done for helping them to aquire some basic necessities.
“Aging people mostly loose appetite as they grow so these fruits will help in their diet and access fruits from the orchard can be sold for them to have something in their pockets,” said Mr Kasambira.
Kasambira called on government ministries to forge lasting partnership with community based organizations , highlighting the need for formal Memoranda of Understanding ( MOUs) to create structured collaboration in supporting elderly.
