In a world where digital tools are the most powerful arsenal to champion progressive socio-economic development, the official commissioning of a state-of-the-art (SOTA) learning hub at Nyamuroro High School in Gokwe bears testimony to the right-foot-forward approach meticulously applied by ICT giant, NetOne across the country.
Another imposing initiative aimed at fostering innovation and bridging the digital divide between the rural and urban leaner, Nyamuroro Kubatana High School Computer Lab was successfully renovated to world class level by the futuristic digital utility.
Equipped with SOTA gadgets and modern furniture, this facility is a beacon of contemporary learning.
From inception, over 300 children will embark on an exciting journey into the world of robotics and engineering. It marks a significant milestone as His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr. E.D Mnangagwa commissioned this transformative space on the eve of the country’s 45th Independence Day Anniversary here.
Zimbabwe’s Independence Day is commemorated annually on April 18.
This facility not only celebrates technological advancement but, emphasizes the importance of inclusivity in education and technology.
With high-profile dignitaries in attendance at the commissioning of the lab, it symbolizes a commitment to ‘Leaving no one behind’ in the digital era, from the top echelons of authority and power.
“By connecting the unconnected, this initiative will ensure that young minds from all walks of life have access to critical IT skills that will enable them to rule their respective destinies and collectively shape the future of the nation,” notes NetOne.
As the President hosted a children’s party at the school, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and anticipation.
For the Gokwe learners and those who may visit from far afield, this is a two pronged celebration, celebrating our hard won political Uhuru and basking in technological emancipation, courtesy of NetOne.
”The newly renovated lab stands as a testament to the power of collaboration between private entities and Government, working together to nurture a generation of innovators. This pivotal moment reflects a broader vision for Zimbabwe, one that prioritizes education and technology as cornerstones of development,” says NetOne.
Adding: ”With the launch of this new facility, Nyamuroro Kubatana High School is set to become a hub of creativity and learnership, inspiring students to dream big and reach for new heights. The future is brighter, and the commissioning was just the beginning of a journey into that future, aiming to empower young Zimbabweans to become leaders in the fields of innovation, science and technology.”
Postal Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) reveals that only about 10 percent of rural learners have full access to ICTs.
In establishing this lab, Netone feeds into the country’s Education 5.0 Model.
The model is anchored on teaching, research, innovation industrialization and community service.
President E.D Mnangagwa himself is leading on that front through the flagship Presidential Schools Computer Scheme, to empower all learners with IT knowledge and skills.
”Under the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS 1), the Government of Zimbabwe
has prioritized ICTs as a cross cutting measure to reduce the urban-rural divide and
enable access to ICTs by all its citizens. The reviewed Zimbabwe National Information
and Communication Technology Policy (2022-2027) follows suit by placing more
focus on issues of infrastructure development and management, research, innovation
and industry development, policy streamlining, equal access across gender and other
marginalized groups, regulatory framework on ICTs and institutional mechanisms, as
well as capacity building and content development,” highlights President Mnangagwa in part of his foreword statement in the current National ICT Policy Blueprint.
Apart from Nyamuroro High School IT Lab, NetOne also established Mtora
Digital Centre, that will enable all the residents to access IT knowledge and skills without discrimination, Nyamuroro High learners included.
Gokwe profile has been uplifted as a result of the initiative by the digital solutions network, NetOne.
