TRUCK IN HIGH-SPEED CHASE KILLS 3 PEOPLE IN BUDIRIRO

A truck that was in a high-speed chase with another car hit and killed three people in Budiriro in a tragic accident.

Harare’s Budiriro suburb witnessed a devastating road accident on Friday, May 9, 2025, when a speeding truck struck and killed three bystanders near a residential intersection. The fatal incident occurred hours after the same truck had been involved in another collision.

According to police reports, the victims were standing alongside Kushanda Crescent near Patrenda Way in Budiriro 2 when the out-of-control Fuso truck ploughed into them. Authorities confirmed the vehicle carried no passengers at the time of the tragic event.

National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi revealed that preliminary investigations showed the truck driver had been pursuing another vehicle involved in the earlier accident.

“Investigations by the police revealed that the truck had earlier been involved in a road traffic accident with a Ford, which did not stop after the accident. Subsequently, a speed chase ensued.”

Traffic officers have launched a full-scale investigation into both collisions. Forensic teams are examining the accident scene while detectives work to establish the exact sequence of events that led to the fatalities.

Authorities have appealed to witnesses of either collision to come forward with information that might assist the investigation. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released pending notification of relatives.

This tragic incident has reignited concerns about road safety in Harare’s high-density suburbs. Residents have called for increased traffic law enforcement and better road infrastructure to prevent similar accidents

Police reminded motorists that fleeing accident scenes and reckless driving constitute serious offences under Zimbabwe’s traffic laws. The investigation continues as authorities work to determine potential charges against the involved parties. *_-iHarare_*
