Greedy & corrupt ZRP officers arrested in bribe sting operation
THREE Zimbabwe Republic Police officers have been arrested after allegedly demanding a US$500 bribe from a stranded bus crew in a dramatic case of cops turning crooks.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) , on 7 May Constable Tichaona Fitzgerald Chitereka (35), Sergeant Simbarashe Nyerere (38), and Constable Pardon Chindudzi (34) approached a broken-down Bless It Up Company bus claiming they were searching for smuggled goods.
The trio reportedly told the bus conductor the vehicle was “under arrest” and would be taken to Darwendale Camp unless he coughed up US$500.
But the would-be victims flipped the script.
The conductor reported the shakedown to Chief Inspector Maxwell Tomwe, who immediately set a trap. Armed with trap money, the conductor handed over the bribe to Chitereka while law enforcement lay in wait.
Boom! The crooked cops were caught red-handed and immediately arrested.
The NPAZ has called on the public to remain alert and report all forms of corruption, especially cases involving criminal justice officials.
