“Zviriko wangu, handina kudhakwa muboora” — Paradzai Mesi Causes Stir at Somandla Ndebele’s Album Launch

Paradzai Mesi left fans and fellow musicians stunned after a chaotic appearance at Somandla “Mafia” Ndebele’s 26th album launch, Atove Mazambuko, held at Steak House Pub & Grill in Harare.

Mesi, who was seated and drinking before his set, appeared heavily intoxicated when called on stage. He struggled to stand, slurred through his performance, and sang off-key. His mic was eventually switched off, and he was escorted off stage by security.

When later questioned about his conduct and if he had returned to his old habits, Mesi defended himself, saying:
“Zviriko wangu. Ndambomwira mwira but handina kudhakwa muboora.”
(It’s true, I had a few drinks, but I wasn’t drunk on stage.)

Alick Macheso’s vocalist, Barnabas Mandipota attempted to help him salvage the performance, but the damage had already been done.

The incident has reignited concerns about Mesi’s ongoing struggle with alcohol, a battle that previously led to his fall from grace in Glendale.

Fans and industry peers continue to express disappointment and concern for the “Huruva” hitmaker.
