Zimbabwe Gender Commission to Investigate Walter Magaya, Other Apostolic Churches
The Zimbabwe Gender Commission (ZGC) will soon investigate allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse of women by Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries leader, Walter Magaya.
ZGC Chairperson Margaret Mukahanana-Sangarwe announced this at the commission’s 10th-anniversary commemorations in Harare.
Sangarwe said all courts have granted the ZGC permission to proceed with the investigations, and the commission will ensure that gender justice is served to alleged victims. The investigation will not spare other indigenous apostolic churches where gender-based violence is reportedly rife.
The ZGC chairperson emphasized that no one will be left out in the pursuit of gender justice, regardless of their proximity to political elites or connections with the justice delivery system.
She also called for the review of existing laws to ensure more punitive convictions and expedite the enactment of a Gender Equality Bill.
