Detective Kedha CONVICTED for kidnapping Lazarus’ girlfriend for 5 strong hours… Police say his Interpol claims are FAKE!
Chidawa, however, was acquitted on separate charges of impersonation, assault, and cyber bullying.
The case centres around Shallom Gandiya, a director at Jaimy Technologies. The state, represented by Dzidzai Josiah, successfully argued that on March 5 of the previous year, Chidawa, along with his accomplice Lazarus James, kidnapped Gandiya. James was Gandiya’s boyfriend.
The court heard that Chidawa and James forcibly bundled Gandiya into their vehicle and drove her around for five hours. They eventually released her at Harare Central Police Station, presenting what turned out to be a fake Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) crime reference number from Gweru.
Police at Harare Central later verified that the crime reference number was indeed fraudulent. Gandiya, having been deprived of her freedom for five hours without any legitimate reason, promptly reported the incident to the police.
Magistrate Banda ordered Chidawa to pay a fine of US$200 by July 14 or face imprisonment.
In a separate development, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has refuted claims made by Chidawa that he was working in conjunction with Interpol on investigations in Malawi.
Chidawa had allegedly asserted that he was collaborating with Malawian police and Interpol to track down stolen vehicles. However, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi has dismissed these claims as false.
Commissioner Nyathi clarified that Interpol operates solely through official police channels and does not engage private investigators. He cautioned the public against placing faith in individuals making such unsubstantiated claims, as they can lead to confusion and the spread of misinformation.
“Interpol only operates through official police channels, not private investigators,” Nyathi stated. He urged the public to exercise caution and verify information before accepting it as fact.
Chief magistrate Vongai Guwuriro, in her judgment on the theft case, cited inconsistencies in the complainant’s testimony as a key reason for the acquittal. She stated that these inconsistencies made it difficult for the court to accept the complainant’s version of events.
Specifically, the complainant had admitted to lying to her husband about being robbed. Magistrate Guwuriro argued that this admission cast doubt on the veracity of her entire testimony, making it impossible for the court to determine whether a theft had actually occurred.
“She said that after her admission that she lied to her husband that she had been robbed, it was hard for the court to believe if anything of that nature ever occurred,” Guwuriro stated in her ruling.
In that particular case, Detective Kedha was charged alongside Paradza Passmore Matubu, Perseverance Chisango, Malvern Mutanda, and Francis Takura.
