Duo cleared of police US$150 bribe charge
Norton – A Norton magistrate court has found not guilty, Theresa Chenjerai and Munyaradzi Zakaria who were facing charges of trying to bribe a police officer with US$150.
Chenjerai and Zakaria were arrested in January this year and charged of trying to bribe a Detective Sergeant Kwashira so that he gives favourable testimony in a robbery case involving Nickson Mazaranye.
Zakaria was arrested with the money and he allegedly implicated Chenjerai.
But at the close of the state’s case, magistrate, Christina Nyandoro acquitted Chenjerai and Zakaria saying the case lacked evidence to put the two to their defence.
”Under these circumstances the essentials elements have not been proven,” Nyandoro ruled.
”The application made by the accused persons is granted and both accused are discharged at the close of the state case and found not guilty and acquitted.”
Chenjerai and Zakaria were represented by prominent Harare lawyer, Tafadzwa Hungwe while Thomas Chanakira prosecuted.
