Epworth Local Council to transform clinic into a General hospital.

The Epworth Local Board is on course to transforming its main local clinic into a general hospital to improve health service delivery and
provide advanced medical techniques and services, for various health
illnesses at the new hospital.
Epworth to date, did not have a hospital and was depending on one
clinic which was now failing to withstand the number of patients requiring treatment as the population of the Harare East suburb has
escalated by over 300% over the past years.
Epworth Local Board Town Secretary Dr Wilton Mhanda confirmed the
development saying the move was long overdue and since the once regarded informal settlement, is now slowly attaining a town status, the need for a general hospital is essential as it will improve health service delivery for the community.
“The transformation of our local clinic into a general hospital was long overdue because our community is now becoming a town, so having a general hospital is very important as this will improve our health
service standards,” said Mhanda.
The Harare East high density suburb’s continuously increasing population has seen the increment of health faculties being reported
on a daily basis and the situation has now become a strain to health facilities providing health services for the area, as they are now
failing to withstand the numbers of patients who visit the clinics on
a daily basis.
The Epworth Local Authority Town Secretary acknowledged the crunch the
Council clinics were facing in attending to large numbers of patients on a daily basis, as they were failing to overcome the pressure they are facing in their daily tasks. The facilities are now facing
challenges in their day-to-day operations due to lack of resources and limited equipment.
“Our population has increased by large, our local clinics can no longer withstand the large numbers that enquire health assistance on a
daily basis, an issue which is now a cause of concern and urgent action is thereby needed so as to improve service delivery and make sure every patient is attended to.
A clinic is a healthcare facility that mainly focuses on outpatient care, typically for routine or preventative services, minor illnesses,
and chronic disease management whilst a hospital is a larger and more
comprehensive healthcare institution that provides a wider range of services, including emergency care, specialized treatments, and
inpatient care where patients stay overnight.
A hospital is the perfect place for patients who are suffering from
major illnesses such as cancer, brain diseases and other major injuries. Although there are some diseases that are incurable,
hospitals however have advanced facilities and technologies to sustain
the lives of the people.
