Chaos as ex-soldier’s wife catches hubby busy enjoying lula lula with their maid

Harare – The Harare Civil Court has granted a protection order to a woman who accused her husband, a retired soldier, of physical abuse following an incident where she allegedly caught him in bed with their housemaid. Ms Johanna Mukwesha, presiding magistrate, issued the order in favour of Beauty Katanha, who brought the case against her husband, Goodwill Katanha.

The case centres around a shocking incident that allegedly occurred at the couple’s Westlea home in Harare. According to Beauty Katanha, she discovered her husband in a compromising position with their housemaid in the dining room at midnight. “My husband slept with my maid in the dining room and from that day, he has been physically abusing me,” she told the court.

Katanha claimed that after she caught them in the act, the housemaid fled the scene. She further alleged that her husband then threatened her with a knife in an attempt to silence her. “He told me no one would believe me, and he said I should protect his name and forget what I saw,” she said.

Since the alleged incident, Beauty Katanha claims that her husband’s behaviour has drastically changed. She alleges that he has become increasingly abusive, resorting to threats, intimidation, and physical violence to keep her silent about what she witnessed. She also told the court that her husband had turned their children against her, telling them that she was a witch and that she should leave their home.

In addition to the allegations of abuse, Katanha claimed that she had been the primary provider for the family for the past decade, while her husband allegedly squandered money on other women. “He is the one who collects the US$500 paid by our tenants, but I do not have access to the money,” Katanha stated. She also alleged that her husband was attempting to drive their son away from home because he was the first to witness the alleged infidelity.

Adding another layer to the accusations, Katanha told the court that her husband insisted on sleeping in the spare bedroom, claiming that he was unable to perform sexually in their matrimonial bed.

Goodwill Katanha, the retired soldier, vehemently denied all the allegations levelled against him. He insisted that he had no involvement in the alleged affair with the housemaid or in any form of abuse against his wife. He maintained that the claims were fabricated with the intention of tarnishing his reputation.

The ex-soldier also claimed that he had abstained from sexual relations with his wife after discovering that she allegedly had a boyfriend in Mozambique, where she reportedly lived for a year. He stated that he had distanced himself from the family’s internal disputes long before the current tensions escalated.

Katanha further argued that he had never engaged in any form of intimidation, threats, or violence against his wife or children. “My military background is being unfairly used against me to create fear and suspicion. There was no concrete evidence linking me to the alleged incidents,” he argued. He urged his wife to conduct a thorough and unbiased investigation into her claims.

The Katanha family’s marital disputes, which they admitted to keeping secret for more than four years, were laid bare before the court during the proceedings. The strained relationship between the couple was evident as they exchanged accusations and counter-accusations.

During the hearing, the ex-soldier made a promise to his wife regarding the housemaid involved in the alleged affair. He stated that if she harassed the housemaid, he would intervene, as he insisted on the housemaid’s innocence in the matter.

The granting of the protection order by the Harare Civil Court marks a significant step in the case. The order is intended to protect Beauty Katanha from further harassment or abuse by her husband. However, the underlying issues of alleged infidelity and marital discord remain unresolved, highlighting the complexities of the Katanha family’s situation.
