Chikanga man dies mysteriously in Mutare…Community shocked

POLICE in Mutare are investigating the mysterious death of a 36-year-old man whose body was found with various injuries along Muterere Road in Chikanga this week.

Stanley Manjoro, of 614 Chikanga 1, was found dead on Tuesday morning about 15 hours after he was last seen alive.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, said they were treating the case as suspected murder.

“We received a report that a man had been found dead along Muterere Road. Police attended the scene and observed that the body had bruises on the right shoulder, right knee and left hip, with blood oozing from both ears.

“The body was taken to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital mortuary for post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death.

“We encourage the community to be vigilant and to assist with any information that may help with investigations,” he said.

Ass Insp Chinyoka said Stanley was with his sister the day before he was found dead.

A witness, Deborah Mubayiwa of Chikanga 1, was the first to see his body the next morning at around 10am.

“The family later filed a report at ZRP Chikanga, prompting police and CID crime scene officers to attend the scene,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.

The community has been awash with speculation. “He was probably attacked on his way home. That road is very dark and dangerous, especially at night. We have reported muggings before, but nothing ever gets done,” said Ms Chipo Mayere, a vendor.

Another resident, Mr Tatenda Ndarukwa, said he could have been hit by a car.

“The injuries look like they could be from a hit-and-run. Blood from the ears can be from internal bleeding caused by trauma.

“We suspect that he was coming from the beer hall at Spar when a car hit him and the driver drove away without notifying anyone,” he said.
