Four Mutare schools lock horns in inaugural debating contest

The city of Mutare recently buzzed with intellectual fervor as it hosted a spirited debate tournament pitting young minds battling for the gong.
The tournament was intiated by David Mamvura, the founder of Royal Studio Africa.
Four schools – Hartlane Christian College, Alpha High School Leadermould Entrepreneurship College and Herentals Group of Colleges locked horns in a battle of wits and rhetoric, turning the event into a show case of young talent.
Mamvura paid tribute to the schools and students who participated in the tournament.
“To all students who participated in our debate event, we extend our heartfelt gratitude. Your passion and arguments showcased the best of what debating can address,” he said.
Teachers from the participating schools praised the event’s organization and the high level of discourse.Mr Roger Joseph, the Debate and Public Speaking Coach for Hartlane Christian College,remarked ” it was a well rounded competition vibrant event,well planned.we faced no challenges.it was a single day competition the students left wanting more ” said Joseph
Similarly , Bradwel Kucherera, an organizer from Herentals Group of Colleges, lauded the participants: “Despite the small number of schools, the quality of the debates was exceptional. These students represent the future leaders of our nation,” said Kucherera.
However, the event was marred by one glaring issue – attendance. Kucherera the hosting patron and also the organizer expressed his disappointment.
“While I am thrilled by the passion and preparation shown by the four schools present, the turnout rate is deeply concerning,” he said.
The reasons for the low turnout varied; some schools cited logistical challenges, while others had scheduling conflicts.
As the day concluded, trophies were awarded and new friendships forged.
Hartlane Christian College emerged as the overall winner, but every participant was enriched by the experience.
