Journalists From Southern Africa Get Detailed Understanding of Palestine Struggle
By Desire Tshuma
Southern African journalists yesterday completed a lecture in reporting accurately on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Zimbabwe Palestine Newsroom Connect and the Palestine Media Forum held a critical training workshop, titled “An Introductory Course to the Palestinian Issue for Journalists in Southern Africa,” which brought together journalists from across the region, including Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, and Zambia.
Dr. Habib Omar, PR at Palestine Media Forum Turkey and Research Fellow at the Asia Middle East Centre for Research and Dialogue – Malaysia, emphasized that the media is critical and responsible for challenging dominant narratives and should accurately portray the Palestinians reality.
“Journalists must go beyond superficial coverage and expose the root causes of this conflict perpetrated by Israeli against Palestinians on their land.
“Its’ not about religious beliefs but it’s mere ways of colonialism, apartheid, and systematic oppression,” said Dr Omar.
Thousands of Palestinians including toddlers, women, journalists, doctors, and school children have been murdered by Israeli occupational force in a war is has spanned over 76 years.
