Gwanda Man Murders Neighbour Over Alcohol Payment Dispute
Bright Ngulube, 48, from Nhwali area, appeared before Gwanda magistrate Progress Murandu this week, charged with the murder of his neighbour, Bongani Ncube. The incident occurred on July 9, 2025, when tempers flared during a drinking session at a local bottle store.

According to court prosecutor Ngonidzashe Shumba, Ngulube allegedly launched a brutal attack on Ncube after being confronted about drinking without contributing to the alcohol purchase.

Shumba revealed that Ncube and other patrons were already drinking when Ngulube joined them. The situation turned ugly when Ncube demanded Ngulube contribute money for the shared alcohol. Ncube was angry that Ngulube joined them despite not paying for any of the alcohol.

“The verbal exchange quickly escalated into physical violence,” Shumba stated. “In an apparent fit of anger, the accused repeatedly struck the victim’s head with his own, causing fatal injuries.”
