Woman Attacks Co-Wife’s Baby After DNA Test Reveals Shared Husband Not The Father
A 35-year-old woman from Chivero Village in Domboshava has been hauled before the courts after allegedly assaulting her husband’s second wife and the latter’s one-month-old baby following a fallout over DNA test results.
Charity Charandura appeared before Harare magistrate Donald Ndirowei facing charges of attempted murder and domestic violence.
She was remanded in custody to 20 August and advised to approach the High Court should she wish to apply for bail.
According to prosecutors, Charandura is in a polygamous marriage with the complainant.
Tensions reportedly flared on 25 June this year, after DNA results revealed that the complainant’s newborn child had not been fathered by their shared husband.
The State alleges that Charandura, accompanied by an unnamed accomplice who is still at large, confronted the complainant at her homestead to break the news.
A heated argument broke out, leading to Charandura physically assaulting the second wife.
The situation escalated further when Charandura allegedly turned her rage on the infant.
The court heard that she brutally assaulted the one-month-old, leaving the child with serious head injuries.
A medical report confirmed the baby had suffered brain trauma as a result.
