Man Charged with Murdering Son Over Dispute Involving US$1

A 52-year-old man from Dzivaresekwa, Harare, appeared in court yesterday, facing murder charges for allegedly killing his son during a family argument over a dollar.

Tinei Katsiru was brought before Harare provincial magistrate Mr. Tapiwa Kuhudzai, who ordered him to remain in custody until August 27. He has been advised to seek bail from the High Court.

Prosecutor Ms. Nomsa Kangara reported that the incident took place on Tuesday around 7:30 PM at their home on Mudyiwa Street.

It began when Clive Kudzaishe Katsiru was attacking his younger brother, Denias, who is visually impaired. The fight started over Denias lending Clive US$1.

When Tinei tried to break up the fight, a heated argument broke out between him and Clive. This confrontation ended with Tinei allegedly stabbing Clive in the stomach with an okapi knife.

Clive bled heavily and was taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival, Several family members, including Alicia, Memory, Denias, and Shalom Katsiru, witnessed the stabbing.

Police have recovered the knife and bloodstained clothing belonging to Tinei. A post-mortem confirmed that Clive died from his injuries.
