South Africa’s Health Minister tells Operation Dudula that laws allowing foreign nationals to use public health facilities won’t change

JOHANNESBURG – Minister of Health Aaron Motsoaledi has addressed Operation Dudula, saying legislation allowing foreign nationals to use public health facilities won’t change.

Motsoaledi made the comments earlier this week during a meeting with the group.

He warned the collective to stop widespread protests over the matter in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal or face the full might of the law.

In some instances, Operation Dudula members have physically removed foreign nationals from healthcare facilities or prevented them from entering them.

Department of Health spokesperson Foster Mohale said: “Minister [Motsoaledi] managed to take the leadership of Dudula through a number of policies and pieces of legislation that govern and regulate the provision of healthcare in the country, which are beyond our control and as a department, we have to comply.”
