The Zimbabwe National Boxing and Wrestling Control Board (ZNBWCB) yesterday converged at the National Sports Stadium to honour the country’s wrestling champions, Jonathan “Mr. Mat” Muvingi, Seabel Simbi, and Tawananyasha Taruvinga.
The event was a celebration of their recent successes in the African Kurash Wrestling Championships held in South Africa.
Addressing the media ZNBWCB Chief Executive officer Priscilla Kadungure said,
“As we celebrate the triumphs of our wrestling champions, we recognize the importance of building platforms and audiences through government programs and national initiatives. We aim to create entertainment and engagement opportunities to showcase sports like boxing and wrestling, and raise awareness and interest in these sports among the general public.
“To achieve this, we plan to collaborate with local sports organizations and promoters to host events, tournaments, and exhibitions. We’ll also utilize media and social media to promote our sports and athletes, and develop grassroots programs to introduce boxing and wrestling to young people, nurturing the next generation of champions,” Kadungure said.
The event was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the wrestlers, and the ZNBWCB’s commitment to promoting the sport in Zimbabwe. The champions left the gathering with their heads held high, ready to take on the world stage and bring more glory to their nation.
