MIDNIGHT GANJA RAID…Five arrested over 306kg mbanje stash and broncleer syrup
FIVE suspects have landed in court after detectives from CID Drugs Harare intercepted a truckload of dagga and Broncleer cough syrup in a midnight sting.
The 10-tonne truck was stopped at Kuwadzana Extension around 1AM on 23 August 2025 following a tip-off.
“A search led to the recovery of 20 sacks of dagga weighing 306kg and 49 boxes of Broncleer cough syrup, each box carrying 50 bottles of 100ml,” said the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ). Four suspects in the truck were immediately arrested before police pounced on the fifth accused in a sting along Robson Manyika Road after he had received part of the consignment.
Those hauled before the Mbare Magistrates’ Court are Paradzai Kamungeremu (43), Givemore Tsavayo (38), Nkosikhona Moyo (35), Tafadzwa Mapika (20) and Faith Matekede (37).
The State is opposing bail, stressing that “the seriousness of the offence, potential prejudice to society, and risk of absconding” make the suspects unsuitable for release. The case has been remanded pending further investigations.
