Shurugwi Grandmother Kills Her Granddaughter (4) and Eats Her Flesh in Money Making Ritual

In a blood-curdling incident, a Shurugwi grandmother murdered her granddaughter for ritual purposes. On Thursday, 28 August 2025, the Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the incident in a statement.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi shared that the police in Chegutu arrested Veronica Mudzipuri (52) on Tuesday, 26 August 2025, in connection with the murder of her four-year-old granddaughter, Tawanayasha Kadhene, for ritual purposes in Shurugwi.

Nyathi said Mudzipuri, who is an artisanal miner, laced her granddaughter’s maheu drink with a pesticide before giving it to her to drink. After the 4-year-old succumbed to the poison, the grandmother cut flesh from the victim’s cheek, mixed it with some herbs she received from a traditional healer, cooked it and ate the mixture.
