Prophetess Arrested After Death of Pregnant Woman Following Home Delivery in Glen Norah
A self-styled prophetess from Glen Norah, Rumbidzayi Sanyamvura, known as Madzimai Rumbi, has been arrested following the death of a pregnant woman she had assisted to deliver.
The incident occurred on September 16, when 36-year-old Ms Ruchiva Misoya sought spiritual assistance from Madzimai Rumbi, believing she could help her deliver her child.
Ms Misoya died shortly after giving birth at Madzimai Rumbi’s house. She succumbed to complications related to high blood pressure, which was confirmed by a post-mortem done at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital.
On September 20, police were alerted about the death when Madzimai Rumbi approached them with a 20-litre bucket containing various body parts, including teeth, intestines, umbilical cord, and blood, claiming they belonged to Ms Misoya.
Madzimai Rumbi was subsequently arrested. Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the arrest and said Ms Misoya’s burial has been halted pending further investigations.
It is suspected Madzimai Rumbi might have concealed serious complications during Ms Misoya’s delivery.
After burial was stopped, Ms Misoya’s body and the bucket of body parts were sent back to Sally Mugabe Hospital for further examination and DNA testing. *Herald*
