ZRP officer arrested for dealing with drugs…caught with 2.8 kg of mbanje
SHURUGWI – Tinashe Maviya (33), a Police officer stationed in Mutare has been remanded in custody by Shurugwi Magistrate, Sithabile Zungula after he was arrested with 2.8kgs of dagga.
Maviya was arrested in Shurugwi together with Ngonidzashe Muzarewetu of Dangamvura, Mutare, on Sunday afternoon following a tip off.
The duo is charged with unlawful dealing with dangerous drugs as defined in section 156(1)(a).
Maviya and Muzarewetu allegedly went around advertising the potency of their dagga which led locals to tip off the Police.
Circumstances are that the duo went to a tuck-shop at Nash 1 mining area and were told to wait for the tuck-shop keeper by a man identified as Shunye.
Whilst waiting, the duo allegedly told Shunye that they had good grade dagga and gave him a few twists.
The tuck-shop keeper later arrived and Maviya allegedly showed him the dagga and left.
Police received a tipoff that the duo was carrying and selling dagga. Acting on the tipoff, detectives apprehended Shunye and recovered twists of dagga.
Maviya and Muzarawetu towards Musasa Business Centre and boarded a Toyota Wish that was headed to Shurugwi town.
Detectives received the information and waylaid the vehicle in town. Maviya was found with 2.8kgs of dagga while Muzarawetu had 0.04kgs of dagga. They were subsequently arrested.Tafadzwa Guzete prosecuted.
