Mnangagwa Grants State-Assisted Funeral For Babongile Sikhonjwa
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has granted a state-assisted funeral for the late entertainer Babongile Sikhonjwa.
Minister of State for Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Judith Ncube, told mourners at the Sikhonjwa family home in Richmond on Thursday that the government had provided US$10,000 to cover funeral expenses.
The gesture comes amid a nationwide outpouring of grief, with friends and fans celebrating Sikhonjwa’s versatility as a radio presenter, MC, stand-up comedian, cultural activist, singer, and DJ.
Sikhonjwa died suddenly on Sunday morning at the age of 49.
A memorial service was held at the Amphitheatre in Bulawayo this morning, followed by burial in Mlowezi, Gwanda District, Matabeleland South Province, on Saturday.
