Delta Chegutu depot robbed US$26 000
DELTA Beverages lost over US$26 000 in cash to two unknown armed robbers who broke into its Chegutu depot last Wednesday after midnight.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Mashonaland West spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera, confirmed the incident saying that a manhunt for the criminals has been initiated.
“ZRP Chegutu is investigating a robbery that occurred at the Delta Chegutu branch on October 1, 2025, at 1 am,” said Inspector Kohwera.
“Two unknown male suspects wearing balaclavas approached the four security personnel on duty.
“One of the suspects fired a shot in the air to intimidate them. They tied the guards’ hands and legs and force-marched them to
the warehouse.”
The suspects attempted to break into the complex through the southern warehouse entrance but were unsuccessful.
They subsequently gained entry through the northern entrance by breaking the locks with a pick and a spanner.
“They then broke into the strong-room door before blasting the safe twice with explosives. They stole cash amounting to US$26,660 before fleeing,” he said.
The security guards were freed by Delta driver Armstrong Chingamuka (42), who arrived for deliveries.
A police report was filed at ZRP Chegutu by the branch manager, Kudzai Mapanzure (36).
Officers and detectives from the ZRP Chegutu station and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) attended the scene.
He urged businesses and people to avoid keeping large sums of money.
“Police Mashonaland West Province would like to advise the business community and the general public to refrain from storing large amounts of cash both at business locations and residential properties,” he said.
Inspector Kohwera called anyone with information regarding the robbery to contact the nearest police station.
