ZHRC And Journalists Visits Morton Jeffrey And Firle Sewage Treatment Plants After Public Safety And Health Reports Rise

The Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) recently conducted hearings with the City of
Harare regarding the contamination of Lake Chivero on 4 July 2025, following an
investigation into the cholera outbreak in Harare. Additionally, there have been
unfortunate deaths of City of Harare workers at the Firle Sewage Treatment Plant in
Glenview on 31 st August 2025.
In response to these incidents and ongoing investigations, the ZHRC, led by Chairperson
Ms. F. J. Majome in conjunction with media will undertake an inspection visit on 8 October 2025 to the City of Harare Water Works. This visit will include the Firle Sewage Treatment Plant as well as the
Morton Jeffery Water Treatment Plant. The purpose of this visit is to gain a
comprehensive understanding of the operational procedures and infrastructure
management at these facilities.
“As the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commussion we shall continue to monitor, investigate, and
advocate for accountable governance and sustainable service delivery to safeguard
public health and safety,” Jassie Majome ZHRC Chairperson said.
