“I Was Drunk”: Masvingo Woman Confesses to Sleeping With Her Uncle After Drinking Two Keys Whiskey

A 24-year-old woman from Victoria Ranch, Masvingo, has admitted in court to having sexual relations with her maternal uncle, claiming she was intoxicated when the act occurred.

Appearing before Regional Magistrate Innocent Bepura on October 14, 2025, the woman pleaded guilty to the charge, saying the incident took place in April this year.

“I was drunk. It was my first time drinking beer. He brought me Two Keys in a cup, and after that, he came into my bedroom,” she told the court.

The court heard that she allegedly slept with her uncle twice on the same day, though she insisted she could not recall all the details due to her drunken state.

The matter only came to light months later when her 11-year-old brother discovered a video of the sexual encounter saved on her phone. Shocked, her mother reported the matter to the police on September 20.

However, the accused denied ever possessing the phone at that time and pleaded for leniency, citing poor health and her responsibility as a single mother caring for a five-year-old child.

Her co-accused uncle is still at large, with police confirming that a manhunt is underway.

Under Section 75(2) of Zimbabwe’s Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, s€xual intercourse between closely related individuals constitutes incest — a criminal offense that also carries deep cultural stigma.

The court has since ordered a psychological and social assessment before passing sentence.
