Chitungwiza Municipality Orders Removal Of Abandoned Vehicles

The Chitungwiza Municipality has called on residents, vehicle owners, and operators of guarded car parks to remove all abandoned or broken-down vehicles and scrap shells from public areas, including car parks, shopping centres, bus terminuses, and open spaces.

The notice, issued on 24 October 2025, gave a seven-day deadline, which has now lapsed. The council warned that these abandoned vehicles and scrap materials are not only unsightly but also pose a security risk, potentially serving as breeding grounds for criminal activities, including drug and substance abuse.

Operators of overnight guarded car parks were instructed to facilitate the removal of these vehicles and scrap materials within the given timeframe. The council also reminded the public that operating illegal car parks is prohibited.

Failure to comply will result in the council removing the vehicles at the owners’ or lessees’ expense, and any unclaimed or removed vehicles will be disposed of or sold at a public auction.

Japson Nemuseso, acting Town Clerk, appealed for the full cooperation of residents, car park operators, and stakeholders in ensuring a clean, safe, and orderly environment across Chitungwiza.
