45 years of China-Zimbabwe ironclad diplomatic relations were praised by Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution as he made a historic tour of the China Medical Device Manufacturing Project.

The entity is part of the USD 7 billion medical equipment manufacturing industry.

The tour, came on the sidelines of the 8th China International Import Expo courtesy of the opportunity granted by President Mnangagwa, and his counterpart, President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China.

It amplifies the two countries’ cordial bilateral relations recently elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation, underpinned by shared historical experiences.

The tour also came on the backdrop of the desire to modernise and industrialise economies of both China and Zimbabwe to attain a high quality of life for citizens.

Minister Ncube expressed gratitude for existing iron clad diplomatic relations between China and Zimbabwe.

“We appreciate the support Zimbabwe received from the People’s Republic of China during the war of liberation, where our cadres, including His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde. Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, trained at Nanjing Military Academy,” he said.

“In addition, we are profoundly grateful for the invaluable medical support from the People’s Republic of China, which included vaccines during the COVID-19 era.”

The People’s Republic of China is Zimbabwe’s biggest investment partner, creating jobs, incomes, and attendant technology transfer in mining, agriculture, manufacturing, construction, and tourism — in particular, Zhong Jing International Hotel in Redcliff.

Minister Ncube said the inception of the second republic under the leadership of President Mnangagwa had led to strategic policy decisions being adopted to open up the economy, entrench public sector reforms, accelerate ease of doing business, and operationalise the devolution and decentralisation framework that effectively accelerated health delivery in Zimbabwe.

“Pursuant to this development trajectory, several clinics and hospitals have been established in all districts under the devolution and decentralisation programme, complemented by the private sector and local authorities,” he said.

“This has created opportunities for the supply of medical equipment, hospital consumables, and human capital development.

“We acknowledge the wide range of equipment supplied by the China Medical Device Manufacturing Project, which covers basic equipment.
