General Rugeje extends olive branch to Chinese enterprises

ZANU PF Politburo Secretary for Economic Affairs Cde Lt Gen (Rtd) Dr. Engelbert A. Rugeje has extended an olive branch to Chinese investors to come to Zimbabwe and grab low hanging fruits in various sectors of the economy in Zimbabwe.

He made the remarks at the Zimbabwe Business Forum at the 8th China International lmport Summit in the Asian country on 6th November , 2025.

The business hosted by the Zimbabwe Embassy in China brought together many investors, economic and business players as well as Policy Makers. The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland East, Hon Advocate Itayi Ndudzo gave the Key note speech on behalf of the country.

In his closing remarks, the ZANU PF National Secretary for Economic Affairs, Lt Gen (Rtd) Engelbert A. Rugeje said, “We urge Chinese investors to partner with Zimbabwean companies to produce for Zimbabwe, the SADC region, and the wider African market,”

“The opportunities are vast, and the environment is increasingly conducive for businesses to thrive.”

Rtd Lt Gen Rugeje who is accompanied by ZANU PF Director for Economic Affairs, Cde Anastancia Ndhlovu, further applauded Chinese enterprises already operating in Zimbabwe, saying their success stories are a testament to the country’s improving investment conditions.

“We have heard testimonies from our Chinese friends who have invested in Zimbabwe and are thriving.

“Their experiences show that Zimbabwe is indeed a land of opportunity,” he added.

General Rugeje expressed appreciation to all delegates who attended the forum, underscoring the importance of turning dialogue into action.

He acknowledged the presence of several dignitaries, including the Ministers of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland East, Hon Advocate ltai Nduzo, Mashonaland Central’s Minister Hon Christopher Magomo, representatives of the Midlands Province’s Minister Owen Ncube as well as the Zimbabwe’s Deputy Ambassador, Cde Mwayera.

Rtd Rugeje highlighted the significant progress made by Zimbabwe in improving the investment climate, noting reforms implemented by His Excellency President Dr. E.D Mnangagwa in the Second Republic to attract and protect both local and foreign investors.
“The Government of Zimbabwe has undertaken several policy and institutional reforms to make our country more attractive to investors. ZANU PF and its Government see China as a critical partner in our industrialization journey as we work towards becoming a regional manufacturing hub, enroute to the realisation of Vision 2030,”he said. He concluded by reiterating that Zimbabwe ls lndeed Open for Business.

Notable Chinese owned companies present at the event include Dinson Iron and Steel Company as well as Sinoma lnternational Engineering Company, among others.
