Man who disarmed a soldier at State House while demanding to see Mnangagwa appears in court

……Prosecutors say he approached a soldier on duty at the main gate and tried to seize his SKS rifle while shouting, “Where is ED? I want to see ED.”

HARARE – A man who allegedly attempted to disarm a soldier guarding President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s official residence has appeared in court facing charges of criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.

Moses Ruvheneko last week appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo, who ordered that he undergo a mental examination by two doctors at the request of the State.

The incident occurred on November 4, 2025, when Ruvheneko reportedly caused commotion outside State House along Chancellor Road — a restricted zone opposite Zimbabwe House.

Prosecutors say he approached a soldier on duty at the main gate and tried to seize his SKS rifle while shouting, “Where is ED? I want to see ED.”

A struggle ensued before another guard, Private Mupfumira, intervened to help subdue him. During the scuffle, Ruvheneko sustained an injury to his left hand from the bayonet attached to the firearm.

“The accused was arrested while in the process of committing the offence, and there are eyewitnesses who will testify linking him to the crime,” the State said.

Investigating officer Innocent Mberi told the court that Ruvheneko refused to provide his home address, family details, or any identification, leaving his background unknown.

He was taken to Five Avenue Police Station, where a report was filed.

The State opposed bail, arguing that Ruvheneko has no known address or relatives and could interfere with witnesses if released.

Police investigations are continuing.
