Bread Truck Driver Arrested For Masterminding Fake US$10,000 Robbery In Chinhoyi

Police have arrested the driver of a bread delivery truck who allegedly staged an armed robbery with his accomplices on Friday, 14 November 2025.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed on Monday, 17 November, that 32-year-old Kenneth Tsvarisai was taken into custody in connection with the incident.

According to Commissioner Nyathi, Tsvarisai reported an armed robbery along the Harare–Chirundu Road near the Mashonaland West Provincial Heroes Acre in Chinhoyi.

He claimed that US$10,000 and a cellphone were stolen from the delivery truck, which was travelling from Banket to Chinhoyi.

However, investigations later suggested that the robbery had been staged. Said Comm. Nyathi:

“On 15th November 2025, detectives arrested the truck driver, Kenneth Tsvarisai, after receiving information which linked him to the purported robbery incident.

“Investigations by the detectives established that Kenneth Tsvarisai provided inside information to other suspects and connived to stage manage the robbery incident soon after receiving the money from his manager.”

Tsvarisai allegedly implicated Tawanda Marumahoko (34), resulting in his arrest and the recovery of US$4,680.

Marumahoko is said to have admitted that he used US$300 from the stolen money to hire a lawyer after learning of Tsvarisai’s arrest.

Police added that Marumahoko later led detectives to the crime scene, where they recovered an Eko P29 ONT 007 blowgun with a magazine containing eight rounds.

In a bizarre twist, Marumahoko allegedly tried to flee and was then attacked by a mob attempting to carry out a citizen’s arrest.

Commissioner Nyathi did not clarify how Marumahoko managed to escape from police custody or how the mob became involved in his re-arrest and subsequent assault. Added Comm. Nyathi:

“The suspect was rushed to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital, where he died upon admission.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is currently investigating the full circumstances which led to the incident.

“Meanwhile, investigations are in progress to arrest the outstanding suspects identified as William and Spencer.

“Anyone with information should feel free to contact the National Complaints Desk number on (0242) 703 631 or WhatsApp on 0712 800 197 or report at any nearest Police Station.”
