Dog unearths infant remains in Nyazura
A Nyazura mother of four has been arrested after she gave birth to an alleged stillborn baby boy and buried the body in a bucket in her backyard that was discovered by her neighbour’s hungry dog.
Manicaland Acting Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the arrest of Maria Munetsi Zhuwaki (34) of Goneso Village, Chief Makoni for concealment of birth.
The incident happened last Wednesday.
Chinyoka added that Zhuwaki’s husband, Fungai Mutiro (40) was refusing to accept the pregnancy.
“The infant’s remains were taken to Rusape General Hospital for post-mortem,” said Chinyoka.
Circumstances are that Zhuwaki experienced labour pains around 5pm and gave birth in a cotton barn alone. The baby boy was allegedly stillborn and Zhuwaki put the infant in a bucket and buried it in a shallow grave in her backyard. She covered the grave with a stone.
Two days later, Zhuwaki’s neighbour, Brian Raza went to feed his dog and discovered that the dog had found an infant’s remains.
Raza informed his grandmother who filed reported the matter at Nyazura Police. Police officers attended the scene, recovered the remains and arrested Zhuwaki. *_-Masvingo Mirror_*
