Sekuru Banda hogs limelight at UAE’s 54th National Day Celebrations

Harare — Sekuru Banda has once again asserted himself as an international icon after hogging limelight at the UAE’s 54th National Day celebrations in Harare.
It was an event buzzing with colour, culture and diplomatic flair.
The crowd’s excitement rose a notch when affable Sekuru Banda, stepped onto the scene.
Invited personally by the United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Dr. Jassim AlQasimi, Sekuru Banda’s presence added a warm, distinctly local touch to an event marked by global ties and cultural pride.
The two were seen sharing smiles and light conversation before posing for photographs — a gesture that drew curious glances and quiet admiration from guests.
This year’s Eid Al Etihad commemorations, celebrated across the UAE and echoed in Harare, radiated unity and national joy.
Across the Emirates, government buildings and public spaces shimmered with flags and festive décor, while museums and community hubs hosted lively events to honour the milestone.
In Harare, the celebrations were hosted at the Rainbow Towers Hotel under Ambassador AlQasimi’s leadership. He spoke passionately about strengthening economic links between the UAE and Zimbabwe, highlighting the growing opportunities between the two nations.
Guest of honour Professor Amon Murwira, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, noted that Zimbabwe is considering the proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which could pave the way for deeper investment and cooperation.
The event brought together diplomats, government officials, business leaders and members of the Emirati community — all united in celebrating the UAE’s remarkable journey.
Yet amidst the formalities and international camaraderie, it was the unexpected charm of Sekuru Banda’s appearance that added a uniquely human touch, reminding guests that cultural bridges are built not only through agreements, but through people.
