Two Zimbabwean men arrested by South African Police after being found with illicit cigarettes worth about R180 000 (approx. US$10,000)

Police received a tip-off that two white Toyota Corolla Quest cars were transporting Remington Gold illicit cigarettes from Musina to Tzaneen. The vehicles were later seen heading toward the Tzaneen industrial area. When police tried to stop them, both drivers sped off towards the Tzaneen Sasol garage. A chase followed, and the police finally cornered the cars near the Sasol industrial area.

When the police searched the cars, they found both were full of illicit Remington Gold cigarettes. Two suspects, aged 37 and 48, both Zimbabweans, were arrested on the spot.

They are expected to appear in the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court on 2 December 2025 to face charges of possessing illicit cigarettes. Police investigations are still ongoing.
