Harare man rapes his virgin ex-girlfriend
A HARARE man, who is employed as a machine operator, is being accused of raping his former lover and workmate, who was still a virgin, at the time of the sexual attack.
Paul Mwembe was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare regional magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa.
The two work at a firm in Workington.
The court heard that on December 1 last year, the complainant was at Rugare Shops, in the company of Mwembe.
He requested the complainant to accompany him home but she refused.
After failing to persuade her, Mwembe went home.
Later that night, at around 2200hours, the complainant contacted Mwembe’s friend, who used to stay with him, and he told her that he was not home.
The complainant left her house to look for Mwembe because she claims she feared he might have been robbed, since it was late.
The complainant managed to locate Mwembe and took him to her house.
She says she gave him a space to sleep on the floor while she slept on the bed.
The State claims Mwembe assured the complainant that nothing was going to happen even if they slept on the same bed.
However, the State alleges that at around midnight, he woke up, overpowered the complainant and then raped her.
The State claimed that she was a virgin.
On the second count, the court heard that on January 3, Mwembe went to the complainant’s house.
The two had an argument and Mwembe decided to sleep on her bed.
The State claims the complainant later slept on the same bed and Mwembe allegedly raped her again.
Later that month, the complainant ended the relationship after she found out that Mwembe was married.
On December 8, this year, the complainant narrated her story to her manager.
She was medically examined and the medical affidavit will be produced in court as an exhibit.
