Magaya’s Bodyguard Acquitted Of Obstructing Justice

Harare provincial magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzai has acquitted Walter Magaya’s bodyguard, Tapiwa Fellix Chikondo, who had been facing charges of obstructing the course of justice.

Chikondo was cleared after a full trial. He had been accused of trying to interfere with witnesses connected to ongoing investigations into Magaya’s alleged rape cases.

According to the NPA, in November 2025, Chikondo contacted the complainant’s mother to discourage her from cooperating with law enforcement and facilitated communication between her and Magaya.

He allegedly sent US$200 via EcoCash to the complainant’s mother, purportedly to cover transport to Harare to “settle” the matter.

On 28 November 2025, Chikondo visited the complainant’s home to discuss the case and was cautioned that interfering with a police investigation is illegal.

An EcoCash agent’s register, recovered by police on 1 December 2025, linked him to the transaction. He was arrested the following day.
