Stabbing murder shocks Shurugwi as police yet to arrest suspects

A wave of anger and fear has swept through Mukotozi village in Shurugwi following the brutal stabbing to death of a local man, Daniel Kuchicha, in an attack that reportedly happened in full view of community members — with no arrests made so far.

The shocking revelation was made by Mliswa, who broke down emotionally while describing the incident.

“I am weeping. There’s an accident that’s happened in Mukotozi, in Shurugwi, in Mr Chivi’s area. There is someone called Daniel Kuchicha, who was stabbed to death while people were watching — and yet police have not arrested anyone,” Mliswa said.

According to information emerging from the area, Kuchicha was attacked in public, raising serious concerns about lawlessness, community safety, and the apparent paralysis of law enforcement. Witnesses are said to have been present at the scene, yet days later, no suspect has been taken into custody.

Residents say the killing has created deep fear, with many questioning whether lives in rural communities still carry any protection under the law. The failure to act has fuelled suspicions of either gross negligence or selective enforcement by authorities.

The incident has reignited debate over rising violent crime in Midlands Province, particularly in rural and mining-adjacent communities where disputes, alcohol abuse, and weak policing have increasingly turned deadly.

Community leaders and rights advocates are now demanding:

• Immediate arrests of suspects linked to the murder

• A clear police explanation for the lack of action

• Protection for witnesses who may fear retaliation

• Increased police presence in Mukotozi and surrounding villages

The killing of Daniel Kuchicha now stands as a stark test of whether justice will be pursued — or whether yet another rural murder will disappear into silence and impunity. *_-ZimEye_*
