Trio in court for murder over girlfriend

Three men from Eastview Phase 2, Mabvuku, appeared in court on Tuesday, charged with murder after they allegedly fatally assaulted a man during a dispute over his girlfriend.

Makhosini Phiri (24), Rudolf Saramunda (20) and Renias Kanjera (23) were charged with murder when they appeared before Magistrate Ruth Moyo.

They were advised that, as this is a third-schedule offence, only the High Court could entertain their bail application.

The victim, identified as 27-year-old Evans Magirazi, was a resident of Damofalls Phase 4, Ruwa.

Prosecutor, Lawrence Gangarahwe, said the incident occurred on December 24, 2025, at around 4 am outside Club Zion bar at Wenera Shops in Damafalls Phase 4.

The accused allegedly had a heated argument with Magirazi over his girlfriend.

The confrontation escalated and the three accused allegedly assaulted Magirazi, striking him on the head with an unknown object, resulting in a deep cut above his right ear.

Magirazi was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A post-mortem later confirmed the injuries sustained led to his death.

In a separate incident, an 18-year-old teenager from Kuwadzana appeared in court yesterday after allegedly stabbing a man in the stomach during a confrontation, leading to his death.

The accused, Mtandazilwa Gumede, was remanded in custody and informed that his bail application could only be addressed by the High Court.

He is expected back in court on January 20, pending the finalisation of investigations.

Prosecutor, Lawrence Gangarahwe, told the court that the incident occurred at Lakers Night Club in Kuwadzana.

Gumede was there with his younger brothers when one of them informed him that a man, later identified as the now-deceased Nyasha Chagunda, had stolen his cap.

Gumede then confronted Chagunda, who was with another person, and a heated argument ensued.

During the altercation, Gumede dropped a knife from his pocket.

When a witness tried to intervene and block Gumede from picking up the knife, Gumede pushed them aside, retrieved the weapon and stabbed Chagunda once in the stomach before fleeing the scene.

The witness attempted to locate Gumede but was unsuccessful.

Instead, they returned to assist Chagunda, who was bleeding profusely with his intestines protruding.

Police from Kuwadzana Station arrived at the scene, and Chagunda was rushed to the hospital where he died from injuries sustained the following day. *_-H-Metro_*
