Two Chitungwiza Solar Panels Saleswomen Swept Away On Flooded Bridge In Buhera

Two women who worked as salespeople for a solar company in Chitungwiza drowned on Friday afternoon when their vehicle was swept away while trying to cross a flooded bridge in Buhera.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.

He said Rebecca Midzi, 22, and Panashe Mutsvari, 25, both from Chitungwiza and employed as salespeople by Paino Tech Solar Company, were driving along the Murambinda–Betera Road towards Murambinda when they drowned on 16 January 2026 at around 2:30 pm. Said Commissioner Nyathi:

“Midzi was driving a white Nissan NV200 with one passenger on board.

“They were going to Hukuimwe Village under Chief Nyashanu, Buhera, where they were staying.

“They approached Chadzire Bridge, which was overflowing and attempted to cross. As they were crossing the bridge, their vehicle was swept away, and they drowned.

Commissioner Nyathi said the bodies were recovered by Washington Hamandishe and Jasman Hamandishe from Hamandishe Village, Aspa Mukoneri from Masvingo Village, and Wirimai Chikafu from Chikafu Village, all under Chief Nyashanu in Buhera. He added:

“Godfrey Kazingize, who is also employed by Paino Tech Solar Company, Chitungwiza, reported the matter to the police, and ZRP Murambinda attended the scene.

“The bodies of the deceased were taken to Murambinda Mission Hospital mortuary. No foul play is suspected, and the postmortem was waived by magistrate, Mr Tendai Mahwe.”
